A few of my lovely Tweeps suggested I do a photo montage of my creative process in making my bird art. As requested. π
Step 1: Prepping
When I start my piece the first thing I have to do it create a beautiful background. For me this means using vintage dress patterns purchased a the local thrift shop. The pattern is then brushed on using a liquid adhesive. While the canvas is drying I move on to step 2.
Step 2: Let There be Birds!
While the canvas is drying I begin cutting out my birds from pre-printed paper and colouring them using ink. I prefer using stamp pads. Once they are coloured and dry, I highlight the words on the paper with a black Pigma Micron archival pen. (This picture is awfully orange – silly Instagram!)
Step 3: Details
This is my favourite part! Using my Pigma Micron archival pens, I highlight parts of the dress pattern.Β I also give my birdies some legs.
Step 4: Putting it all together
Once the details have been added I adhere the birds and a quote I’ve selected from a novel. In this particular piece I’ve used an excerpt from The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer.
And there you have it folks – my process. —> Completed piece titled ‘Follow the Birds’.
Thank you for sharing this! It’s clear that you enjoy making each of these by the beautiful creation at the end π

Preeety birdies. I wish I could make beautiful things. Until that day, I will just have to keep looking at the beauty you create.
