Day 9 of NaNoWriMo and what I’ve discovered is this year my daily dedication to writing leaves much to be desired. Really not surprising given that last year all I had to focus on was writing. This year I have my coaching business, my art AND my writing. Plus that other day job gig.
To make matters worse, on Day 2 a sparkling new novel idea sprung forth from nowhere and began nagging me. So much so in fact that I found myself running to the public library for books to read and research.
Just lovely.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled that my brain continues to deliver on the creativity, but now? REALLY? DUDE! I need to focus on Reaper’s Bride, not some 5th century knight named Tristan that keeps poking at my noodle and begging me to scribe his tragic story. It’s ALWAYS a tragic story, isn’t it?

Anyhoo…I’ve written down the synopsis for Tristan’s tale and asked him very nicely to please wait till December to come poking at my brain again. So far he’s agreed, though he was not all that pleased. He mumbled something about severing my medulla oblongata, before receding into the shadows. Thankfully it was no more than a threat. James has taken front stage again and is keeping a weathered eye on Tristan in case he decides to make a surprise attack. It’s nice having someone to protect my brain whilst I write Reaper’s Bride, even if it’s the aforementioned Reaper.
My head is a strange and busy place, if you haven’t figured that out already.
P.S. How many of you thought of Adam Sandler & the movie The Waterboy when I said Medulla Oblongata? Don’t lie 🙂
Nano has got me down this year too. I really wanted to have the time but the day job is running me through the ringer right now and when I get home I’m exhausted. Just keep on being a writing warrior and all will be well. I’m just trying to eke out a few words where I can.
Just after finishing Flight of Blue and in the midst of prep for the sequel and edits on the first, a whole new triology popped into my head, and the FMC is very demanding. We’d better keep her and Tristan apart lest they conspire to take over…
Very good idea!! Good luck with your writing projects and thanks for commenting 🙂
