Sometimes you’re scrolling through Facebook, mindlessly looking at people’s updates, and something strikes you as important. You might even say life-changing.
On this particular day it was a video shared by Ashton Kutcher and it was all about regret.
I watched that video from start to finish…twice. I even made Brandon watch it too. And now I’m going to make you watch it. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Powerful, right? It makes me tear up every time I watch it because I can see all that pain in those people’s eyes. It’s all about the things they didn’t do. Chances they never took. Dreams they never followed. It’s all the excuses they made. All the fear that stepped in the way.
Four years ago a series of events forced me to look at my own life and my regrets. The pile of regrets I was accumulating scared me shitless and forced me to act. It was still scary to act, but in a different more positive way.
Watching this video reminded me of how far I’ve come. I’m now focused on living my life to the fullest to prevent regrets from piling up. But it also made me realize there was still work to be done.
That’s the great thing about life, it’s never too late. It might be harder. It might require more resources or planning or patience or whatever, but if there’s something that’s important to you, don’t you owe it to yourself to pursue it?
I try to live my life thinking that every day might be my last. It’s morbid but it works. What are the things I’ll regret not doing if today is my last? I recently revisited my list and discovered that there was a few major items outstanding that needed attention. I’ll get into that in another post because well…reasons.
Now it’s time for your homework: I want you to think about your life and what you might regret if you don’t act now. Find a way to start working towards that goal because even if you fall short of accomplishing it, I guarantee you won’t regret trying.
Every new day is a clean slate, how will you decide to use it?
